Getting Started

STEP 1.

The first step to building your pool is getting the site approved by your local council. Sometimes this can be tricky but if you want it in that location we can make it happen.

STEP 2.

Marking out the pool and excavation – this is a very exciting time for the owner as it is the first major stage of swimming pool construction. The pool has to be marked out slightly larger at the beginning in order to achieve the correct size at completion. How much bigger is often determined by the engineer, depending on supplies and location. The pool is also excavated deeper to achieve the correct depth when the pool is finished. Another major aspect of excavation that we keep in mind is the site drainage (where the water is going to go when it rains) and the levels of the completed swimming pool and surrounds. After this stage most backyards look very untidy, but you have to break an egg to make an omlette.

STEP 3.

Boxing form and steal fixing. In this process the body of the pool is formed, this would be the most labor intensive part of a concrete swimming pool. The ‘box and steal’ is set up to the correct size and depth for your swimming pool and an engineer’s plan is strictly followed to place the reinforcing steel in the correct location. Once all the steel is placed the plumbing provision and skimmer box is also tied into location. This can vary from pool to pool with so many optional extras available, eg, spa jets, swim jets, solar etc. the steel is then assessed by the engineer and approved for concrete spray.

STEP 4.

Concrete spray. A special concrete is used when spraying swimming pools it is the right blend of sands and aggregates generally at 32mpa which the engineer will specify. The concrete is then poured through a 3-4 inch line pump and sprayed onto the wall using air the pneumatic compressor is usually at 230psi. The concrete is then cut by hand to create the individual shape which is your swimming pool. The standard backyard swimming pool takes approximately 3-4 hrs to spray. The concrete we use cures rapidly, usually around 2 hours after the concrete is applied.

STEP 5

Stripping the boxing, plumbing the pool, and setting up the filter. These three aspects are generally done at the same time, however from pool to pool the amount of boxing and plumbing and the size of the filter can vary.

STEP 6

Now it is time to do, what we like to call, the cosmetics of the pool. Once again depending on the type size and style of the pool, the length of the time line can vary. This is the stage where your dreams come to life, everything from building natural and artificial caves and waterfalls to feature walls tiling and fountains will happen during this time.

STEP7

Your pools interior. Whether it is be fully tiled, pebble, quartzon, liner or fiber glass this is the next stage in the process. All of these different methods can take different amounts of time depending on the shape, surroundings and location of your desired pool.

STEP 8

The Final Stage. The commissioning of your brand new swimming pool. After your interior is completed your pool is filled with water, chemicals are added and the filter and water features are made operational. This is the stage of the pool that we call the hand over. During this stage you will be taught how to operate and maintain your own backyard oasis. Customers at times find this daunting but with today’s technology and the amount of money spent on research and development in the swimming pool industry, maintaining your pool is a breeze. One of my most important services we like to provide is being there to answer any questions and offer our services in the upkeep of your pool.
